i’m going to be doing major reading from now on. i’ve already been assigned beowulf, reading from a text on medieval english literature, three short stories, and a greek comedy. The short stories and the comedy should be easy but beowulf not so much. i know i should like class literature but i can’t bring myself to like much before the nineteenth century except for shakespeare. maybe if i read the right works…
i have the same teacher for my short stories class that i had for my creative writing workshop last sememster. i’m really pleased. my creative writing workship should be fun. as should my comic spirit class. survey of english literature (which covers works from before seventeenth century) will be challenging.
i was in the bookstore the other day and came across this book on self-injury that i’d never read before. it really bothered me for whatever reason and i gave in and hit myself quite a few times. i don’t like that. i really need to remain self-injury free because i really want to get into this program for nuc med at school and it probably will require a physical exam (at least it did for this other school i checked into). if i get caught with anything new i’ll probably be denied. it’s probably going to look bad enough with the scarring. that’s the reason i’m trying to be good. i can just see myself failing, though.
my self-injurers biographies were mentioned in an article in reader’s digest (at least i think that’s the right magazine). not favorably, of course. seems some girl thought that because famous people were doing it that meant it was ‘cool.’ never mind the warning at the beginning of that particular page. don’t idolize or condemn them. most of the feedback i’ve gotten on that section is positive, though. people have said they don’t feel quite so alone or hopeless when somebody they recognize has gone through it and has still become successful. the rest of the article was pretty bad, though. lots of assumptions and some condemnation of self-injury sites. basically, too bad we can’t shut ‘em down but that’s freedom of speech. bad attitude.

hope all goes well during your college semester.
you spoke about not liking works before the 19th century but i require a favor from you. i ask you read some anne bradstreet. i can totally see you enjoying her stuff. she was one of the first american poets and some of her couplets are breathtaking.
let me know what you think

well written. i’d like to read some more if you wouldn’t mind. i have some things on my blog that you might like for your site(s) but it is up to you because this is your site.
hope to talk to you soon
iom, i looked up some of anne bradstreet poems and did indeed like some of them. they are very accessible. i especially liked To my Dear and Loving Husband and Verses Upon the Burning of Our House. thank you for recommending her work.
ashley, i’ll try to post more pieces I’ve written. i looked on your blog but wasn’t sure what you had that you’d recommend for my site.
