let us do something, while we have the chance!

I know this is late but I’ve been mulling over my plans for the upcoming year. Now that going to school for my bachelors has come to a close I have lost some of my direction.

What I want to accomplish over the next twelve months

  1. Go today or tomorrow to talk about delaying commencement until May.
  2. Go back to school for something related to IT, looking into programming. I’ve been self-taught so far but I think I’m in desperate need of some sort of formal training. I want to be back in school by Fall semester.
  3. Finish the revamp/complete rewrite of backend scripts on my non-personal website.
  4. Rewrite myFanlisting CMS and move fanlistings over to sleepwalking.nu.
  5. Buy a new computer. The one I have is over two years old and moves at a crawl. Using MSN Messenger can cause it to freeze up. I was thinking of a Mac but decided it was too expensive. I don’t have that sort of money lying around!
  6. Lose weight healthily. I need to start walking/jogging again, that helped me lose nearly ten pounds over the summer. I gained it back after I stopped.

I’ve been thinking about regrets and I have few, I feel wasting time regretting things holds people back. I do have one related to losing a friend I’d had since high school. Now we’re nearly strangers. It’s something I think about from time to time, I can’t quite let go of it like I’ve let go of everything else.

  1. I have a couple of regrets in my life too but I decided to just stick with the current happenings and the things that are about to happen so that I have something to look forward to. I hate the feeling of having some sort of hindrance into moving on in my life :s

I need to buy a new laptop as well. I got this laptop around late 2005 and it’s starting to slow down already. :s

    • That’s usually my way of thinking, too. It’s just this one thing. :/

It’s annoying the way computers tend to start breaking down so soon. You’d think they’d last longer! I made mine faster with some help but the main issue (it has a hard time restarting) is still there.

  2. I can’t believe number 5. Really? Our comp is over 4 years old and works real quick. Maybe a bit of tweaking would help save money?

    • With the help of my brother it’s working faster. I think the main issue (which I didn’t mention) is that it has a hard time starting up. Sometimes I need to restart it several times for it to work. That worries me, especially since it’s been reformatted already. If this problem doesn’t clear up I’m not sure what the best course is but I don’t expect to buy anything outrageously expensive if I replace the computer. I have my data backed up on a portable drive.

  3. Going back to school sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately a lot of jobs require a education and even if you’re good at what you’re doing that’s not always enough if you don’t have a diploma saying you studied this. One day I’ll study web design because being self taught isn’t always enough.

I also have regrets when it comes to loosing friends. I can’t let go of those regrets either. The people I lost meant too much for me to be able to move on and accept how things turned out.

    • Definitely. You need a diploma to back up your skills. Otherwise they write you off as just a self-taught hack.

It’s hard to let go of regrets of that sort. Most people just seem to think it should be gotten over as quickly as possible but it’s difficult.
